New Year, new YOU?

Happy New Year friends! I know it’s late and it’s basically February, but I have just created this blog recently and I really wanted to talk about the New Year.

Now that it’s here I really want to make this year better than the last! Last year was a good year, but I know it only gets better from here. As a family, we did a lot of fun things. Our five year old had a blast with all the fun activities we took her to and my bf, Rickey, and I had a lot of fun hiking all summer long! So, all in all we had a really good year.

This year, we plan on doing all those things and more. I’m so grateful we get the opportunity to do all these things.

The number one thing I really want to focus on this year is myself. I have so many goals and habits that are always just put aside and I realized that these are some things that could be making my life better, but I always seem to ignore them.

So, if you too want to make this year better than the last, below are a few ideas to keep in mind. I, on the other hand, will be trying to meet these goals to make this year even better. Happy reading!

1. BE GRATEFUL

To be honest, being grateful isn’t always in my mind and it should be. We often say things like “I have to workout,” or “I have to do this and that..” and we don’t realize that we really should be grateful about these things. We are able to do them. The one thing I have learned is to replace the “have to” to “get to” and it really makes a big difference in our everyday lives. So.. saying “I GET to workout” instead of “I have to work out” makes us have a more positive outlook. That’s big! In my opinion, being positive and appreciative of what we have really makes us feel better. There are so many things to be thankful for.

With that in mind, that is the number one goal I will be striving for this year. To be grateful, little or big, and to be more positive about anything and everything. Because in reality, if you’re reading this, we are all blessed.

2. PRIORITIZING HEALTH

Okay guys, this is major. This is another thing I really want to focus on. Fitness and health, I have been working on this since I have given birth to my baby girl.. six years ago. Damn. That’s a while.. To be honest, I am so bad at sticking to routines. I get bored or I make up so many excuses. This year, I really would just love to stick to something and keep up with it as a lifestyle. That is something I would be so happy about. So.. how do we strive for this goal? Get the motivation! Easy? Nope.. It’s easy to say, but in reality it’s really hard to find. I know because I’ve gone through this over and over again. In the past, whenever I find that motivation I stick to it for a few weeks but it never last. I always give up and make excuses. Sticking to a routine is probably the biggest thing to do, it’s hard, but when we reach it it’s life changing. Do what works and be consistent!

This year, I plan on practicing yoga… and maybe doing some weights with the bf. 🙂 I am only hoping to stick to it. It has given me a lot of motivation watching everyone else practice it. It’s fun and it’s really amazing what others can do and how it can make someone feel. I think it’s great and I can’t wait for it to change me and to help me be that best version of myself I have been striving for.

3. READ MORE

Yes! Let’s talk about reading because I have put this aside for so many years. I am a girl who loves to read, but there’s not enough time in a day to do them. I get busy with work and I don’t get that much alone time until bedtime, but when that time comes I usually just end up sleeping. If you feel the same way, I say that we stop these excuses today.

This is a goal of mine and I really want to do this more often. So, I have put this in mind and added it to my everyday to do. My goal for the year is to give myself some time a few days a week and to read a new book at the beginning of each month. This method will definitely help me read more and more. To further push myself, I will be writing a review on the books I read every year and share it here on my blog. I hope to find some amazing books. If you have some recommendation, I would love to hear them. I am hoping this will be an encouragement to continue my reading adventures and I can’t wait. I’m so happy to be starting this journey this year.

4. CONNECT WITH FAMILY

So, this is a big one too. Let’s be honest, life gets in the way and we really don’t realize anything until something occurs. That is a big one for me.. I always seem to forget to connect, but I want to. So this year, I want that to change. I will try and connect with family more this year and see where it takes me.

The biggest problem I have connecting with my family is the distance. Having that distance really sucks, but that’s life. We can only work on it.. try and find other ways to connect even if everyone is so far away.  Today, we live in a world full of technology and that’s a really good tool we can all use. I am not going to lie, even with this tool I still have problems connecting. So what is it really that is stopping us from it? Let’s all ask ourselves and think.

With this in mind, in my experiences, time is the answer. The biggest thing that we all don’t have enough of. Is that another excuse though? Maybe.. but it really depends on how we look at things. Overall, we really should just try and be thankful for the time that we do get to connect. After all.. love is all we need. 🙂

5. BE OPEN MINDED

This year I want to believe in myself. To be open minded and to not be afraid to try something new. Over the years, I have learned that nothing gets done when we don’t act on our goals or something we’re passionate about. I am guilty of this. So who wants to live fearlessly with me? To be open minded? I definitely should of started this… like yesterday. We need to not let the fear get in the way of chasing our goals. We need to be strong to tackle challenges head-on and not quit when the going gets tough. We can’t be afraid of failure and we definitely can’t let judgement stop us from doing what we truly want and love. Those things are important. So what if we fail? At least we know and we tried. The biggest fear in life is knowing we never tried. We learn and we move on. Do what we want, chase those goals and have trust it will all work out. Be fearless.

This year, there is one big thing I want to be open to. I want to start photography. It is something I have thought about doing for so long now. I like to be creative and photography really makes me feel happy. I want to peruse this and be open minded. Anything is possible and I want to start believing in myself.

So I hope we can all be open minded. It will help ourselves and we will see what we are truly capable of. It’s an amazing feeling.. believing in one self.

6. BE GENEROUS

When it comes down to it we only get one life, and giving back is always a good thing. Being generous can be a lot of things. We can be generous about our time, talents and money.. anything really. The idea feels good. Weather it’s from helping a friend out to making someone smile, little or big, it makes a difference… and we all could use it. So let’s be generous and see how it can help us be better. Living is giving!
